Design Chat No. 1 / White Space

I'm so excited to start a blog series about design terms!

First up.... white space!

White space - or negative space - is the space in between design elements in a composition.  White space directs your eye to what is important by shaping and defining the positive space (text or image) and giving it room to breathe. White space makes you go "ahhhhh". White space feels great. White space in design is similar to negative space in photography. Just as negative space draws your eye to the subject of the photograph, white space draws your eye to the most important piece in your composition.
